Thanh Bình is a district on the left bank of Tiền River, bordering Tam Nông district to the Northwest, Cao Lãnh district to the East and Chợ Mới district and Phú Tân district (An Giang province) to the South and West. It covers an area of 341.91, having a population of 155,378 people and its density is 454 per km².

Its agricultural land is 26,730 ha, including 26,003 ha of annual crops, 500 ha of aquaculture. The district’s potential is exploiting riparian alluvial land to breed catfish (according to the 2012 survey).

Thanh Bình has three relatively different regions: the riverbank, isle and deep regions. In the riverbank area (Tân Phú, Tân Thành, An Phong and Bình Thành communes), their land are fertile and trees are green thanks to alluvial as well as man-made. Their islets such as Tân Hường, Tân Quới, Tân Hòa, Tân Long and Tân Bình are a floating land at the middle of Tiền River, very fertile and good for crops. Deep land is a large area, so called deep land of Đồng Tháp Mười (Plain of Reeds) with features of sunken and acid sulfate land

Thanh Bình has an intricate canal system and a convenient channel system for waterway transportation, irrigating for prawn and fish farms. Beside the canal system across Provincial Route No. 30 running along the left bank of Tiền River, lying across the district, plays a vital role in transport system linking with other districts in and outside the province to create close connection with many regions.
