To Celebrate the 45th of the Victory in the War to Protect the Southwest Border
The 45th anniversary of the Victory in the War to protect the Southwest border and Vietnamese volunteer troops to help Cambodia escape the Pol Pot genocide (07/01/1979- 07/01/2024), took place on the afternoon of 05/01/2024, in Cao Lanh city, with the participation of more than 160 delegates from Vietnam and Cambodia.
Mr. Le Xuan Hai - Chairman of the Union of Provincial Friendship Organizations reviewed the historical milestone on 07/01/1979, the milestone of international solidarity between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia working together to overthrow the genocidal regime of Pol Pot, firmly protected the sovereignty of the Southwest border and revived the country of Pagodas. From 1979 to 1989, Vietnamese cadres, volunteer soldiers and experts in general and Dong Thap province in particular participated in fighting in the Cambodian battlefield for the noble international cause, independence and freedom of the nation.

At the ceremony, Mr. Chan Sorykan - Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City emotionally recalled the dark time of the Cambodian people under the genocidal regime of Pol Pot. At the same time, he sincerely thanked the Government and people of Vietnam, especially the Vietnamese volunteer troops for promptly supporting Cambodia to overthrow Pont, opening a new chapter for Cambodia.

Ms. Hon Sothiary – Deputy Governor of Prey Veng province expressed her sincere thanks to the government and people of Dong Thap for supporting the province in the process of fighting for national independence and the construction and development of Prey Veng province. Ms. Hon Sothiary believed that the neighborly, friendly and cooperative relationship between the two provinces of Dong Thap and Prey Veng will develop more and more stably and strongly.
Over the years, Vietnam-Cambodia relations have been constantly strengthened and developed. In addition to foreign affairs, Vietnamese branches and levels also organize many exchange, training, volunteer activities, etc. Dong Thap alone has trained more than 1,700 Cambodian students, every year, the province also offers 15 full scholarships for Cambodian students to study at colleges and universities in Dong Thap.
