The leader of the provincial People's Committee said that Dong Thap is an agricultural province and implements the strategy of food security for Vietnam and the world, by maintaining the area under rice cultivation in recent years. However, the province is being affected by climate change, facing many challenges in agricultural development, especially in terms of crops and people's lives. However, Dong Thap has always oriented to develop favorable agriculture, adapt to climate change, build green and sustainable agriculture.

Green economic models, circular economy are being interested by the province to increase the value of agricultural products, especially on rice, with the goal of improving people's incomes to reduce poverty and reduce emissions according to commitments. end of the Government.

Mr. Rémi Nono Womdim - FAO Representative highly appreciated the dynamism and pioneering of Dong Thap province in implementing agricultural development programs. Dong Thap is quite diverse in crops and livestock, has reasonable resource management, a variety of OCOP products and is a local food supplier for many other countries.

On that basis, the Chief Representative of FAO proposed to cooperate with Dong Thap province on 03 contents: Improving capacity for disease prevention, developing plant varieties and livestock to adapt to climate change; Management of resources (land, water) and biodiversity, serving the development of green agriculture (especially the buffer zone in Tram Chim National Park); transforming sustainable agricultural development according to green, smart agriculture, marketing strategies for agricultural products.

Mr. Pham Thien Nghia - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that the proposals of the Chief Representative of FAO in Vietnam are very suitable with the development orientation of Dong Thap province; At the same time, he emphasized that he would coordinate with FAO to implement those.

In the immediate future, the two parties will provide a contact point to concretize these cooperation contents. In the coming time, Mr. Pham Thien Nghia hoped that the two sides would continue to study and propose more cooperation in the direction of the Agricultural Restructuring Project in Dong Thap province, as well as FAO's activities in the province.
